Plumbing is one of the most important things to be managed for a household. However, most people don’t even realize when they’re having a major plumbing issue. It’s important to know when exactly you’re having a big time plumbing emergency, so you can contact a plumber as soon as possible! But don’t worry, we know you aren’t a professional plumber – and you need some guidance for when exactly you are having a CODE RED emergency with your plumbing. So, we’ve got you covered! Here are the things that are considered plumbing emergencies.

It may seem like one of the weirdest issues to have, however, the biggest plumbing emergency that you can have is a complete lack of water. Having no water is a terrible thing that signals a complete shutdown of your plumbing system. And so, it’s unwise to wait! No water can be a symbol of many different issues, however, ALL of them qualify as plumbing emergencies. It’s not only uncomfortable to live with in the short term, but can be legitimately dangerous in the long term. Make sure that if your water isn’t there, you call your plumber quickly.

The most physically dangerous to your house’s condition and quality is the flood risk. If you can tell an issue is causing a flood risk, such as overflow due to pump failures and burst pipes, it’s time to call a plumber. Most plumbing issues affect other parts of your plumbing system, but a flood risk has the potential to severely damage your home and valuables. Flood risk isn’t something to mess around with – call a plumber as soon as you have a flood risk problem.

One of the most severe problems in plumbing is the dreaded pipe burst. Pipe bursts are prone to freezing up and cracking, creating both the no water and flood risk problem when they break. And so, since it is the cause of two of the most dangerous issues for plumbing, pipe bursts are definitely something to deem as an emergency! Make sure to ask your plumber how to know if your pipes are on the verge of collapse so you can call and get it figured out before something serious happens!

Some things are not deemed plumbing emergencies, and it’s important to identify which ones are and aren’t. Some people think minor issues like leaking faucets, running toilets, tuneups, and appliance issues are emergencies, when in reality, they can be put aside for a few days. In fact, it may be important to call ahead and wait a few days on these issues, as most plumbers have to go find the right tools to complete complex jobs. You may not be able to get the best plumbing support if you treat these issues as emergencies!

These criterion are a great starting guide for understanding when to and when to not contact a plumber about a perceived “emergency”. Make sure to review the issues and only make a call if you need to!
