F. A. Q
Frequently Asked Questions
My water heater was flooded in a storm. Does it have to be replaced?

In almost every case, yes. Federal safety guidance is that gas control valves, circuit breakers and similar submerged components must be replaced rather than repaired, because silt and corrosion inside them can cause a failure well after the unit seems to be working again. A flooded heater that runs fine today is not proof it is safe. We will assess it honestly and tell you either way.

Does my new water heater have to be elevated?

In a Citrus County flood zone, air conditioning, electrical and plumbing equipment must be installed at or above the design flood elevation, which is typically the base flood elevation plus a foot. Whether that applies to your address depends on your flood zone. We will check before we quote so the job is done to code the first time.

When do I have to connect to sewer if my street is converted?

The city’s Indian Waters septic to sewer project requires connection within 365 days of sewer becoming available at your property, and the connection work is a separate cost from the assessment itself. If a conversion is coming to your street, it is worth budgeting for the on lot plumbing early rather than in the final month.

I need to repair my septic system. What has changed?

As of December 15, 2025, repairing or modifying a septic system inside the Kings Bay or Crystal River springs basins triggers a requirement to install a nitrogen reducing system. You cannot simply replace what was there. Call before you commit to any septic work and we will help you understand what your property requires.

Why is my water so hard on fixtures in Crystal River?

The water comes out of a limestone aquifer, so calcium and magnesium come with it, and Kings Bay sits close enough to the saltwater transition zone that chloride levels vary considerably across the area. That combination is hard on cartridges, valves, aerators and water heaters. Testing tells you what you are actually dealing with before you buy any treatment.

Do you handle plumbing on elevated and waterfront homes?

Yes. Waterfront and elevated homes here have their own considerations, from equipment placement and elevation requirements to exposed runs under an elevated structure. We work on them regularly and we plan the job around the flood zone rather than around it being inconvenient.

Do you serve Homosassa and the rest of coastal Citrus County?

We do. Along with Crystal River we cover Homosassa, Homosassa Springs, Lecanto, Beverly Hills, Citrus Springs, Hernando, Inverness and Floral City. Whether you are on city sewer or on septic well outside it, we work the whole coast.

How long does it take you to get to Crystal River?

Crystal River is about an hour from our Ocala shop, and we schedule this side of the service area in blocks so the drive does not eat your morning. Call (352) 433-6525 and we will book a window we can actually hold.
