No. The Dunnellon system, which is operated by FGUA rather than the city, draws from Floridan aquifer wells and disinfects with chlorine. There is no softening step. The mineral content the limestone puts in is what arrives at your fixtures, which is why scale shows up faster here than people expect from city water.
The Florida Governmental Utility Authority has operated the Dunnellon water and sewer systems since October 2018. The city handles roads, parks and stormwater. It surprises a lot of people, and it matters when you are trying to figure out who to call about a service line versus who to call about the plumbing on your side of the meter.
