Frequently Asked Questions
Do I really have to upgrade my septic system if I repair it?

If your property is inside the Kings Bay, Crystal River, Homosassa or Chassahowitzka springs basins, then as of December 15, 2025 a repair or modification does trigger a nitrogen reducing system requirement. It is a real change and it caught a lot of homeowners off guard. Call us before you commit to anything and we will help you understand what applies to your property.

Is there any help paying for a septic upgrade in Citrus County?

Citrus County has run a septic upgrade incentive program offering reimbursement toward an approved system for eligible existing homes. It has been at application capacity while the county waits on additional funding, so availability changes. Check with Citrus County Housing Services for current status before you plan around it.

How often should I pump my septic tank in Citrus County?

Every three to five years suits most households, depending on tank size and how many people live there. Given how strict the rules have become here, staying ahead of it matters more than usual. A pumping is inexpensive compared with a drain field, and a failed field now means a far more expensive replacement than it used to.

Why does my well water smell like sulfur?

That smell is hydrogen sulfide, and it comes from sulfate in the limestone aquifer being chemically reduced. It is common in this region and it is not something you have to live with. Point of entry treatment handles it, and we test first so the system matches what is actually in your water.

My water heater was flooded during a storm. Can it be repaired?

Generally no, and this is worth being firm about. Federal safety guidance is that gas control valves, circuit breakers and similar components that have been under water must be replaced rather than repaired, because corrosion and silt inside them can cause a failure later. A unit that seems to work after flooding can still fail dangerously. Replacement is the safe call.

Do you serve Crystal River and Homosassa as well as inland Citrus County?

Yes. We work the whole county, from Inverness and Floral City inland out to Crystal River, Homosassa and the coastal communities. Coastal properties have their own considerations, including flood elevation requirements for equipment, and we take those into account.

y, Archer, Alachua, High Springs, Micanopy, Hawthorne and Waldo. If you are in Alachua County and not sure whether you are in our range, just call and ask.

Are you licensed to work in Citrus County?

Yes. Miller and Sons Plumbing is a state certified, family owned and veteran owned plumbing company, insured on every job. We work throughout Citrus County for both residential and commercial customers and are happy to provide license and insurance documentation.

How far is Citrus County from your shop?

Inverness is about 50 minutes from Ocala and Crystal River is about an hour. We schedule Citrus County work accordingly so you get a real arrival window rather than a vague promise. Call (352) 433-6525 and we will tell you honestly when we can be there.
